Shield The Sharks was made to overcome and diminish the fear around sharks in order to amplify a call to action for their protection and conservation. Sharks are in big trouble and we are a major threat.

OUR MISSION
Shark populations have drastically declined over the last 50 years due to dying as bycatch from overfishing, unsustainable fishing practices often coupled with illegal fishing.
Shark finning is just one area that most people have heard of, but they also are being used in beauty and food products often without consumers' knowledge. Often unnecessary or with health risks due to the high amount of mercury in their systems. We want to bring attention to these issues, share credible organizations and educate everyone on sharks! We tend to be afraid of things that we don't understand. So Shield The Sharks wants to help share as much knowledge on these amazing animals as we can.
OUR STORY
The media has a bad habit of demonizing sharks. Shark attack headlines, horror movies with people-eating great whites and so much more. The reality is that sharks are not out to get us. They are actually kind of scared of us and usually anti-social.
Statistics keep proving that the odds of someone encountering a shark or getting attacked are slim to none.
Shield The Sharks started with my own phobia of sharks but an absolute passion for ocean conservation. In order to overcome the fear, I traded horror movies for documentaries and not only fell in love with sharks but realized how badly they needed help. That’s what Shield The Sharks is, an educational source to debunk myths, share conservation efforts, and make sharks just as lovable as any other cute and fuzzy animal.
